The iPhone 4S has a bug which means it won't communicate over Airplay properly, with the smartphone initially being able to connect and then quickly failing, or not being able to connect at all in some cases. The iPhone 4s problem is the latest in a series of bugs that saw an update for iOS5 pushed out last week.
Bowers & Wilkins, who make the famed Zeppelin Air iPod dock, have confirmed that iPhone 4S users have been having problems connecting their devices to the iPod docks via Airplay, going on to say that they believe it is a problem which is affecting all iPod dock manufacturers that use Airplay.
As far as B&W are aware it's a bug within the iPhone 4S and so is a problem that cannot be rectified by any of the audio companies, instead users will have to wait for an update from Apple.
B&W have confirmed that Apple have been notified about the problem and are currently 'investigating to try and offer a resolution', that said it is important to note that this is not as yet an official fault with the iPhone 4S simply that B&W have made Apple aware of what they believe to be a problem
In addition, Apple's own support forums are awash with similar complaints, some of which hint that the issue may be to do with iOS5, rather than just the iPhone 4S. However, Apple were not available for comment at the time of writing.

Подтверждаю проблему. Дома 2 Iphone. Просто 4 и 4S. Iphone 4 работает с Zeppelin Air без проблем. Включаю 4S через некоторое время отключается поток и вся сеть рушится.

ReplyDeleteI confirm the problem. Houses 2 Iphone. Just 4 and 4S. Iphone 4 works with the Zeppelin Air with no problems. Turn on the 4S after some time off the flow of the whole network collapses.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI have:
Imac 27" with lion,
Imac 21" with snow
Ipad 2
they all work fine on my zepplin air, fantastic sound etc, but i purchased this for my i phone 4S, and it connects for about 30 sec, and crashs my whole wifi neywork, tried this and 9 times out o f ten it crashes network, or just cuts off completely.
a real disappointment considering the price of this equipment....
complaint confirmed by me as well. iPod touch and iPad work fine, but after one minute playing time from my iPhone4s, the whole local network crashes. A cold boot of the modem is the best way to recover
ReplyDeleteI have done extensive trials since taking delivery of my Zeppelin Air and I find that the initial connection to the ZA via wifi was quite easy and worked straight away. I can play any radio station using the TuneIn radio app for extended periods of time (6 hours plus). occasionally the connection may be lost but only as a result of loosing the radio statio stream, when I press play again the broadcast continues through the ZA. Which proves the wifi connection between the ZA and the network wasn't broken.
ReplyDeleteIt's a different story when I play my mp3 tunes via the 4s music player. The connection seems to be lost randomly.. or maybe not! I find the there are certain play lists the play via Airplay without a hitch but some of my older (maybe) tunes cause the connection to be lost. This is the connection between the ZA and the network! The only way to resume play is to reboot (switch off & on) then restart the ZA so it searches for the network connection and re connects. I have got to the stage where I can isolate a specific tune and when I play this tune I can guarantee that the connection will break. This seems almost impossible that the playback of an mp3 could make the ZA lose it's connection with the network but it does it every time. I have quite a few tunes that cause this outcome. The problem I definitely with Airplay or the 4s or both.
The same tunes that cause the problem however, play without problem when using Airplay through my wireless laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro XP pro). I've played all tunes extensively through iTunes on my laptop and to date have not lost the Airplay connection once.
No doubt tunes purchased from the apple store play perfectly but we all have old cherished mp3's that we transfer to out phones and for some reason this maybe where the problem lies??? After purchasing the Zeppelin Air for £499 from a HiFi dealer, for the specific reason of controlling my music from my pocket I'm upset to have to return it. Especially as the problem seems to lay with Airplay. After reading extensive complaints on the Apple forum it doesn’t seem to be just the Zeppelin Air, in fact it seems to be with every wifi Dock and speaker setup on the market which reinforces the argument that Airplay or the 4s is where the problem lies.
i can confirm the problem with two Airplay devices. Zeppelin Air and Phlipps Fidelio.
ReplyDeleteBoth play fine with Ipad, 3GS or Imac, but crash with Iphone 4S.
Had also problems with Airport Express, but a Firmware Update solved the problem there.
Same here, iphone 4, PC with itunes both airplay without a problem.
ReplyDeleteiphone4s airplay dies within seconds to minutes, occasionally will last tens of minutes, has never lasted an album.
Apple, step up guys, we've spent $1000 on an iphone and $800 on zeppelin speakers, they should work as promised :(
I had the same problem with network crashes, phoned up a B&W engineer who confirmed the 4S conflicts with the Zep Air and an update should soon be available.
ReplyDeleteIt's not bloody good enough if you ask me, I can't use the Zep Air for the purpose I bought the thing. It's very annoying.
MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and iPad 2 work fine over the wireless network using Airport Extreme router. iPhone 4S running the latest software causes the whole system to "glitch" every time.
ReplyDeletesame here. My imac and ipad1 ipad2 iphone 4 all works perfectly with ZA.
ReplyDeleteBut not with iphone 4s..
It only worked for about 30 secs and stop working until you reset ZA. The whole process repeat itself..
Upgrading to the latest firmware isn't helping.
Damn, it should't been this for its price..
I've spent over 20 hours trying to get the iphone 4, 4S, or even my MacBook to work reliably with airplay. Read every forum, etc. Changed wifi frequencies, moved my Time Capsule, up and downgraded software on my Airport Express, etc. Can't make it through a few songs and often a few seconds without dropouts. Frequently crashes entire network. Wow. Unbelievable that Apple is silent on this.
